PHab Theatre (pronounced 'f-ah-b')
We are two early-career dramaturgs and long-time creatives who have started this collective to focus on creating spaces that prioritise wellbeing and collaborate with artists seeking dramaturgical support.
We write, we direct, we perform, WE DRAMATURG.
We are a collective of two creatives who want to connect with fellow artists and nurture a community of authentic and kind humans.

This is where we work with individual artists/companies in the creative process of their work to prepare and realise a final piece.
We do production dramaturgy for scratch nights, solo work and ensemble performances.
We can support the creative process by being present for R+D's. This can be for feedback on developing textual work, fleshing out devised pieces, and acting as an audience eye.
We read scripts, prepare notes and discuss , through 1-2-1 sessions, with you to help further develop your work.
If you have an idea that has been niggling away in the back of your mind but you're not sure what to do with it or how to explore it, we're here to help!
Through discussing with you and gathering all the context surrounding your idea, we will support you in being able to move forward and continue being creative.
We provide detailed research packs to provide contextual information regarding the content of production. These will typically form part of a production's protocol for all involved to be aware of.
We curate specific sections of theatre programmes to provide context to audience.
We want dramaturgy to be an accessible practice so we have created a workshop that explores exactly what dramaturgy is and demonstrates how to put it into practice. All creatives practice dramaturgy, it is simply a label for the creative process.
We host these workshops for universities, public access, festivals and companies.
We work on a sliding scale to be able to support artists at all stages. Our fees depend on each project so do get in touch to further discuss this.
"The PHab Lab workshop was a good balance of moving around, playing, writing, sharing, discussion and sharing from Pam and Hannah. Really well-packed 3 hours."
- Workshop Participant
"I started writing a play and I had little confidence in my writing, PHab Theatre helped me break down my ideas and flow of dialogue. They asked opening questions to new thoughts and dramatic beats for my characters. The perfect balance between constructive and supportive."
- Writer & Performer
"I’ve been working with Pam & Hannah for the past few months working with me on my new play. Not only are they incredibly professional and dedicated, they have been very emotionally support and patient with me and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better team to be on this journey with!"
- Actor & Writer
"I came with an open mind to the PHab Lab workshop and it was all great."

We initially provided dramaturgical script support for Akin Wright's play back in September 2023, helping him develop and refine his story and writing. In December Pamela then took on the project as a director and the play was performed at The Pen Theatre in February 2024.
In February we led our PHab 101: Intro to Dramaturgy workshop for DMU's BA Drama and Performance students. We tailored our workshop to include texts that they study throughout their modules, as well giving them the opportunity to devise and perform. We gave the students the tools to be able to analyse text and performance through a dramaturgical lens to support them as they continue their studies.
In September 2023 Pamela & Hannah each directed a show for Baron Court's Reboot Festival. Pamela directed the opener 'Little Black Dress' by John Maybe and Hannah directed the closing show 'Dating Pool' by Arianna Rose.
After Reboot Festival, Wren Perkins reached out to PHab through the Writer's Call Out for dramaturgical support with their first script. Hannah then went on to direct the piece for Baron Court's 'Queering the Cannon' event.
For HoneyFish Collective's BOLD ACTS event we were asked to provide production dramaturgy to the performers in a rehearsal prior to the event. We watched each individual act then sat down with them to provide 1-2-1 dramaturgy to support them in developing their work for the final showing, and beyond.
Through our Writer's Call Out in September 2023 we met Aidan Parsons and had the privilege to be able to support his play through our Script Dramaturgy service. Stay Her and Die With Me was then performed at Drayton Arms in March 2024.
This open workshop explored what dramaturgy is, how to feed it into your creative practice and connect with others. We guided participants through writing exercises, discussion and understanding the importance of wellbeing through the creating process .
This is a programme for emerging playwrights who have a play they are either currently working on or an idea they would like to develop.
Over eight weeks participants will meet with myself and Hannah (PHab co-founders) for focussed two-hour sessions on how to progress their ideas, evolve their writing and refine your voice as artists. In the final week, there will be the opportunity to do a rehearsed reading of an audience at Hoxton Hall.
